Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away tonight after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Ginsburg, appointed to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton, served in her position for over twenty-seven years. During her tenure, she oversaw many critical legal battles and upheld our nation’s laws to the greatest esteem.
Now the fight to appoint her replacement will surely intensify in Washington and perhaps in crucial Senate races. And with that, supporters of the Democratic Party appear more motivated than ever donating over $150,000,000 through the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue, which beat its hourly fundraising numbers hour after hour tonight. Various groups under the ActBlue banner have seen considerable increases in fundraising as well as the Crooked Media initiative, Get Mitch or Die Trying. Get Mitch or Die trying launched earlier this year and aims to spread donations to fourteen key senate races across the country to flip the senate blue in November. Crooked Media reported via Twitter that their campaign had received over $19,000,000 since RGB’s passing bring their total to over $22,000,000 raised for their targeted senate raises.
Now all eyes will be on the Senate as Mitch McConnell released a statement tonight showing his support for nominating a Supreme Court justice who is appointed by Donald Trump. This looks to be headed for a heated showdown in the senate as Democrat’s remember all too well Republicans blocking the nomination of Merrick Garland before the 2016 election. The spotlight will be even more amplified as Conservatives could have a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court if Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump are successful.
We will be releasing a series of articles in the coming days relating to the nominating process and who could be the key votes if Donald Trump does nominate someone before the election or during the lame-duck session.
